Aspect Hunter SchoolPlayground Upgrade

Delivering a safe, inclusive and future-ready play environment

Completed playground at Aspect Hunter School — synthetic turf, inclusive play equipment and shade sails
Project overview

A turnkey renewal from investigation to handover

Aspect Hunter School (Autism Spectrum Australia) engaged RenewCORP to deliver a full upgrade of their primary playground — the first major renewal since the school opened in 2012.

What began as a playground replacement quickly evolved into a broader site upgrade, requiring coordination across civil works, drainage, surfacing, and specialist play equipment. RenewCORP was engaged to deliver this as a turnkey Design & Construct solution, from investigation through to handover.

The challenge

More than a playground replacement

Early investigations identified that the project extended well beyond the playground itself. Key challenges included:

  • Ageing and non-compliant playground infrastructure
  • Subsurface drainage and plumbing deficiencies
  • End-of-life surfacing systems
  • Fencing upgrades required for safety compliance
  • Delivery within a tight December–January school holiday window

This required a structured, multi-stage delivery approach with clear coordination across all trades.

Our approach

Structured. Coordinated. Delivered.

Procurement & commercial management

RenewCORP developed and issued multiple RFP packages covering civil works and drainage, playground design, supply and installation, and turfing and landscaping.

  • Tender evaluation and contractor selection
  • Commercial alignment across scopes
  • Cost control and variation management
  • Integration of all packages into a single delivery programme

Site preparation & civil works

  • Demolition and removal of existing playground and soft-fall
  • Regrading and installation of a compacted, well-drained platform
  • Upgraded drainage to address historical site issues

Design & equipment delivery

  • Specification of Australian-made, compliant play equipment
  • Designed for inclusive use across multiple age groups
  • Fully compliant with relevant Australian Standards

Surfacing & landscaping

  • Installation of impact-absorbing soft-fall systems
  • Synthetic turf zones to improve usability and reduce maintenance
  • Turfing works to surrounding areas to enhance the overall play environment

Programme & delivery management

While the works were planned for completion during school holidays, the decision to use locally manufactured equipment extended delivery into early February. Rather than compromise on quality, RenewCORP re-sequenced the programme, maintained stakeholder alignment, and managed expectations proactively — ensuring a better long-term outcome without sacrificing compliance or durability.

  • Re-sequenced the programme to accommodate Australian-made equipment lead times
  • Maintained stakeholder alignment throughout
  • Managed expectations proactively

Live environment execution

A critical phase of the project was delivery within an operational school environment. At all times, student safety was prioritised over programme.

  • Staging and segregation of work zones
  • Ongoing coordination with school staff
  • Strict safety and access control measures
